There is fear and apprehension in Okigwe and it's  neighboring communities
as  combined teams of soldiers, Police and other security outfits have launched  search for people suspected to have attacked the Correctional farm Settlement in the area.
Gunmen had on Monday stormed Nigerian correctional facility at Umualomoke farm settlement of Okigwe Local government area of Imo state,  killing one Police Inspector, injured another, adopted one Police officer and freed seven inmates. The Imo state Police Commissioner, Mr Aboki Dabjuma in reaction, had ordered a heavy deployment of security officials in the area and the adjoining communities in the manhunt for the masterminds of the deadly attack and their sympathisers. Aboki had earlier warned that their actions would be decisive and sustained.

The Imo State Police Command had blamed the attacks which occurred on the 12th February, 2024  on the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and the Separatist Movement, the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
While paying an unscheduled visit to the affected facility, the Police Chief vowed that every arsenal in their armoury shall be deployed in the pursuit and manhunt against the groups, their sponsors and sympathisers in the State. He reiterated the ability of the police and other law enforcement agencies to rid the state of criminal elements including separatist movements and pro-Biafran agitators whom he blamed for the attacks on the Correctional facilities.

Meanwhile Civil Rights groups across the state are calling on the government to exercise caution and show restraint in their response in order to avoid loss of innocent lives and destruction of people's properties and means of livelihood considering the current harsh economic realities in the country.
The groups cautioned that previous police actions usually resulted in heavy human casualties hence admonishing the security agencies to show restraint in their actions.

Also a foremost Igbo socio cultural organisation "Ogbako Umunna" through it's Publicity Secretary,  Basil Chikaire Nnanna
in a chat with TBE Magazine  admonished the security agencies to refrain from activities capable of throwing the state into chaos, noting that civilians have always been at the recieving end each time security agents go in search of ESN members.
